Dear customers:
Since this is a leap year, I wanted to send the note out on the 29th. I hope that your New Year started well. It's already the end of February, and spring will be here soon.
Based on the feedback from partners and customers about ease of use, installation, and architecture, here are some improvements that we are making to the products. The Insight Connector will be re-architected for ease of installation and will have a single installer that combines the Connector with the Addressbook. The Connector will also re-add the PST file for faster performance and additional features like Mobile device support. Read below for the details.
The Kolab/iCal Connector will be released in March. We wanted to add the new easy installation tool before releasing this product.
We will be open sourcing most of the components of Server 4.3 in the coming months. If you would like a copy, please contact me.
Product Updates:
To significantly improve the performance of the Insight Connector, we are re-designing the product to support PST files again. The PST file will replace the local cache and maintain the current features. Mobile devices that support the PST file format will be able to sync calendar, contacts, tasks, etc.
In addition to the performance enhancements, Connector's installation wizard will be reduced to one web page. All of the necessary components will be automatically installed and configured. Below is the tentative feature list for the next release coming in the Summer time.

- Rewrite to PST file from the local cache
- Mobile device support
- Grouping support (color & categories)
- Email encryption
- Web installer
- Integration with Addressbook 3.0
Insight Addressbook 3.0:
Beta is available for all customers. http://www.bynari.net/products/insight_webclient/bynari_beta_community.html The Addressbook now supports all the International languages and works with Outlook 2007. It has the ability to detect the LDAP directory that you are using and automatically fill in the schema. It also provides more functionality and ease of installation.
Server 5.0 update: tentative release in April

Here are technical descriptions of some unique features of the new Server.
Scalability and Reliability:
neonInsight stores all objects in a single-instance storage; this means that attachments are only stored once and offers significant storage savings (could be over 50% at some sites).
It has no database - Databases are at the heart of most problems with other systems (corruption, poor performance, difficulty doing backups).
File-system based storage - Flip side of "no database". Storage is optimized for messaging. It's more robust because any corruption has limited impact, i.e. individual messages or a specific folder of a specific user.
Multiple instances of the server can be run on the same machine (called "Application-Level Virtualization") - This allows you to optimize your hardware by utilizing it better under peak loads.
Component-based architecture is used to provide fine-grained scaling to meet the needs of individual sites and to load-balance various components for scalability and redundancy (higher availability out of the box). It allows for virtually unlimited scalability.
Load-balancing for redundancy will be available instantly - Side effect of component-based architecture/multiple instances.
neonInsight provides Unlimited Virtual Domains to seamlessly host multiple companies; Private Domains will be supported as part of this feature.
Directory Independence - May be configured to use virtually any layout and schemas from an existing LDAP-compliant directory. It allows the company's central directory to be used instead of maintaining a separate application-specific database/directory.
Administration:
Online system configuration will not need a restart of your server for configuration changes to take effect.
neonInsight allows On-the-fly Backup/Restore that does not need to have the system down for backups or incremental restores. It supports automated scheduled backups for both full and incremental backups. Backups to local or remote disk or to tape are also available with the option to backup or restore down to single object.
Enhanced Quota Classes to ease user creation, management, and minimize system load have been added.
neonInsight supports permission levels for multiple systems administrators, domain administrators, and group owners. It is hierarchical based user permissions for different types of users.
Limited Visibility for Group and Mailing List addresses - Mailing Lists and groups have a mail address assigned to them. The ability of a specific person to send mail to a Group or Mailing list can be set to "Only members of the Group/Mailing List", "Users in the System", or "Everybody" (including users outside the system).
Single-Domain/Multiple System mail routing -users on a single domain can be on multiple hardware systems and be routed to different internal messaging systems.
Neoninsight supports virtually unlimited namespaces. Users can have their own personal space with its own quota and store information on a different location on the disk for archiving purposes.
